Cryptopus dissectus is known of only from the collection of the type specimen in 1963 from Ifanadiana, Fianarantsoa. This species has an area of occupancy (AOO) of 9 km2 and occurs in only one location. It is not present within protected areas and experiences continuing decline due to illicit collection and deforestation. It is therefore assessed as Critically Endangered.
